Sutherland Ladies

Oh how Hayden loves those beautiful Sutherland ladies!! They just dote all over each other...Sloane and Hayden have quite the hugs and kisses down. She just loves all over him and says "He's so cute!". How sweet is that! Sophie is so good with Hayden, teaching him all sorts of things...from rolling over, practicing words, brushing hair-you name it. We have loved our play dates this summer and are really bummed that we won't get to see them every day once school starts back up. Here are some pictures from when I taking care of the kids one afternoon.

Circus

Hayden went to his first circus and did really well. We had pretty good seats so I think that is what helped hold his attention. The tricks that they perform and have the animals do are amazing! I think our favorite acts were the motorcycles in the ball (they had 7 in there at one time) and the elephants. I can't believe all of the tricks they can teach the elephants...pretty amazing! The lady that was working the elephant photo area let me take extra pictures of Hayden since we purchased one. He was hamming it up...enjoy!

Comfort Visit

We went to Comfort (Brittany's hometown) for the July 4th weekend. We had so much fun-thank you to Lou and Warren for their hospitality!!! Hayden was able to see pigs up close for the first time and to see a horse for the second time. He was SO scared of the pigs. When he was around the horses he would tense up, but he constantly wanted to go and see them. He LOVED the wagon rides down the road with Presley. That Saturday we went to the parade downtown-another first for Hayden. He loved seeing the firetrucks and was constantly wanting to walk down the road. By the end of the parade he was so hot and tired that we needed to head home so he could cool off and get some rest.

New Tricks

This is one of the newest tricks (and a no-no in our house) from our little man. He loves standing up on the couch and then bouncing down on his bottom. He is getting to be quite the daring soul-he was straddling the arm of the couch the other day. He knows that he can sit on the couch but not stand or jump...so right before he does it, he gets this grin on his face and laughs.

Ugh. I was so afraid that he would learn to do that. Now every time he makes a peep in his crib I am off and running to make sure he is not making an attempt to get out.

Ear Update

We went this afternoon to the ENT...the right tube isn't blocked anymore, but he wants us to continue antibiotic drops for 10 days and then come back to see him. When we return he is also going to check the pressure level in his ears before we get on an airplane to New Mexico. I don't think we will do tubes this summer, but probably in the near future.

Poor HJ

Hayden has has so much trouble with his poor little ears, and it seems that the cycle continues. (He has had countless ear infections before the tubes and after.) I took him to see his ENT last week...the left tube is out and the right one is completely clogged. He was thinking that HJ is having so many problems with his ears because he might be allergic to something. He is also projecting new tubes in the near future. Well, I got an appointment with an allergist the day after his ENT appointment and met with him for a while to discuss what we are seeing and what we might think is going on. We decided to do several different allergy tests, actually 13, to see if HJ is allergic to things that he comes into contact regularly. We did dogs, cats, positive and negative control (just to make sure the test was working correctly), dairy, chicken, beef, oranges, peaches, peanuts (just for future reference), dust mites (not that we have them...just to see if that could be something that is bothering his skin), bananas, and wheat. They pricked his back with all 13 needles at the same time...they were on a board type thing so they could do them simultaneously. He didn't even cry!!! We waited 15 minutes for the results and it turned out that as of now, he is not allergic to any of those things. Whew!!! We will go back in a year for a check up.

So the underlying problem with his ears still remain. He woke up this morning with fluid coming out of his right ear again...so we are off to see the ENT this afternoon to see what he suggests. Hopefully we will have a good report and a great idea to solve the problem.

Park, Truck, and Tunnel

The first three pictures: Hayden and I went to the park to play...he had so much fun going down the slide and picking up rocks. He only tried to put them in his mouth a couple times, but listened really well when I told him to put them down and that they don't belong in his mouth. He liked picking the rocks up, putting them on the slide, pushing them off, picking them up, and then letting them slide through his fingers.

The second two pictures: Gus is sometimes really bad and will get something and not give it to you or he won't go outside, so we use this pink leash to help us turn the situation around. It was out from the morning when Gus wouldn't go outside, so Hayden decided that he was going to put it on his car and pull it around. Daddy will put a leash on some of his toys and pull him all over the house, and H loves it.

The last two pictures: I bought a new tunnel for us to play in, but Hayden wouldn't go in it until both Mommy and Daddy were home. We got on either side, I went halfway in the tunnel, and then he decided to try it out. Once he went in it he had so much fun and didn't need us on either side to coax him through. (This was after his third haircut!!!)

Father's Day

Matt went down south to work on an oil well last Thursday and we didn't know when to expect him home...they thought it would be a four day job. That meant he would be there over the weekend and would hopefully be home on Sunday. When Sunday came around we knew that he wasn't going to be able to come home. Well, as it turns out-something happened and it was going to be a five hour delay that turned into an 18 hour delay...which meant that Matt drove back to San Antonio to see us for a few hours. We missed him SOOO much and were extremely excited that we would be able to see him. He got up at 3:30 Monday morning to head back down south to work for a few more days. We aren't used to him being gone this long (mind you-we were in Kentucky for four days, all together for two, apart for four more days, all together for a few hours, and then apart for two 1/2 days), so you know it was hard for us. Granted, I am glad that he had the opportunity to go work and learn from some of the best especially since that is what he is ultimately wanting to do. He learned a lot and had a good time with the guys.

WE LOVE YOU SO MUCH DADDY AND ARE SO THANKFUL FOR YOU!!!! YOU ARE FABULOUS...WE COULDN'T ASK FOR A MORE CARING, SUPPORTIVE, NURTURING, HANDS ON, AND LOVING DADDY!!!! YOU ARE TRULY THE BEST!!!!

Zoo

We took Hayden to the zoo for the first time and let me just say, he LOVED it!!! We met Jess, Brittany, and Presley there and had so much fun walking around looking at the animals. Hayden and Presley fed off of each other...one would say WHOA and then the other would say it. They would say it over and over with such enthusiasm, it made all of us laugh multiple times. We got to see the elephant come out for the first time for the day. Hayden was standing by us, and when she came out he ran to the fence, started shaking it, and yelling out WHOA. The people around us got a good laugh and said that it was the best reaction they have seen. We bought the zoo pass so we can go early in the morning before the zoo opens to the public...I have a feeling that we will be seeing a lot of the zoo this summer!

This first picture was when we first walked into the zoo. Hayden didn't know what we had in store for him and looks like he is wondering where in the world we are. Soon after this picture he couldn't stop smiling, laughing, and jabbering.

We had so much fun with Poppa Grande and Grammie this past weekend! They came to stay with us on Saturday night and then with Jess, Brittany, and Presley on Sunday night. Memorial Day

My Mom and Mema came up to visit on Monday. Hayden loved "showing off" his new talents (words, hide and seek games, dance moves, etc) and he loved Mema reading to him. He kept bringing books to her and saying "book, book" which means he wants you to read to him. He had so much fun dancing to the new toy that Nana brought him...he loves all of her noisy/fun toys that she brings him!!! Presley came over to swim/splash in the blowup pool...and that is just what she did! She had such a fabulous time splashing around, getting in and out of the pool. Hayden on the other hand (just like his Mommy) didn't like to be splashed. He wouldn't get in/stay in the pool until I got in with them...and even then he wouldn't get up from my lap. Thanks so much for coming to see us-wish it could have been longer. We love y'all so much!

Uncle Trav and Kentucky

Hayden, my Mom, and I went to Kentucky to see my brother. We haven't seen him since he left for boot camp, so as you can imagine, we were ecstatic! Well, the trip didn't start off on such a good note. When we got to the airport early Thursday morning, they said that all the flights were cancelled. After sitting on the phone for an hour with the airline personnel, we were put on a bus to Dallas with a flight to Memphis and then to Louisville. During our ride to Dallas, we were pulled over and the officer did a safety check on the bus. They were honking the horn, looking at the wipers, etc. We knew for sure that we would miss the flight to Memphis...so after an hour of sitting on the phone again, we had a flight the next morning. Not what we wanted, but it was the only one that had any seats left (on any airline) and it just happened to have three. We were upset that we wouldn't get to Louisville until noon on Friday, missing Travis' presentation, but thankful that we were going to get there at all. When we got to Dallas, we stood in line for four hours, stood at the check in for 45 minutes while they fixed our tickets, and then headed to a hotel for dinner and bed. We finally arrived in Kentucky and headed to the hotel in our rental car. On our way we took a wrong turn and ended up in Indiana!!! We finally got to the hotel where Trav was already waiting and headed out to 4th street to get something to eat. Our rooms were right next to each other, which was nice so we could zip over from room to room. 4th street was lined with restaurants, people singing, and at night had concerts. One night Filter was on a stage in the middle of the road (they are blocked off at night) while we ate dinner. Hayden was hilarious...he was moving his head, arms, and body to the music while making noises. After every song he would clap his hands and say YEA! We had such a great time seeing Trav and hanging out. It was really hard on Sunday to see him go. I am looking forward to seeing him again in a couple of months...hopefully he will get to come home for a little bit before he heads off to duty. My Mom and Mema are going up there next month to see him graduate. Travis is the platoon leader, meaning that he is in charge of the four squad leaders (which he was promoted from) and the rest of the troop.

Fiesta Float

Hayden had a Fiesta Float Parade at his daycare, so we made him a float to pull. We went with a monkey theme (the final product had monkeys hanging from the trees) and put a picture of him with a monkey on the back of the float. They said he pulled it and had fun, even though that was the same day he fell and busted his lip open. :(

Presley's Sleep Over

Presley and her new puppy, Maverick, stayed the night with us while Jess and Brittany went to a wedding out of town. This was her second time to spend the night, but the first that she would actually remember since she was only 4 months old the first time. Hayden and Presley had SO much fun together...they played, played, and played. They did so well sharing toys and getting along. We loved having her over and look forward to many, many more sleepover nights!

Easter Weekend

We had such a wonderful Easter weekend with family. We headed out to the lake for Uncle Bart's birthday dinner on Friday at Lost Creek Winery. The venue was incredible...such a great place to go over the summer to listen to bands, have dinner and some of their wine. Saturday the guys played golf while the ladies relaxed. Hayden sure did keep us entertained and on our feet. With all of the cooks in our family, the food was delicious as always. Saturday night we headed back to Poppa Grande and Grammie's house to put out Hayden's Easter basket and some food for the Easter Bunny. We woke up Sunday morning and the bunny came and left some goodies. :) Hayden was so excited to see his basket and to dig in in. Once he found the basketballs...he kept saying "ball" over and over. Jess, Brittany, and Presley drove up to Marble Falls to eat and hunt Easter eggs with us. Presley was such a champ picking up the eggs and putting them in her basket. Hayden picked up two and just wanted to play with them...he wasn't too interested in the others that were everywhere on the ground. They had fun dancing and popping bubbles...Hayden said bubble for the first time. Poppa Grande cooked us Easter lunch while we watched the Masters (it seems it is a tradition to watch it in MF every year)...it was yummy! Basically, our weekend was filled with family, food, golf, and good times...how could you ask for more?!?!

We went to a Pulliam/Cain family reunion out at the ranch a couple weeks ago. We ran in the Koman Race and then "raced" down to Uvalde for the reunion. It was so good to see and catch up with family. There was fabulous food, great stories, and even better family time. Unfortunately I didn't get many pictures at all, but here are some that I did get.

I just LOVE these pictures of my Mema and Hayden. Hayden and I drove down and stayed with her one night when she hurt her foot and couldn't really move around...we knew Hayden would make her day and take her mind off of her foot. Sorry it has taken so long to post pictures and an update! We went to the rodeo when it was in town...Hayden absolutely LOVED it!!! I think the people around us had just as much fun watching Hayden as they did the rodeo. He was clapping, dancing, turning around and smiling/laughing with everyone. What a fun day! :)

We had dinner last night with the Simpson family...Jill, Shane, and Mary Beth. We had a fabulous time (as always) at our favorite meeting spot. Good food, margaritas, and company always makes for a great night out!

First Hair Cut

Hayden had his first hair cut yesterday! We went to "Sharky's Cuts for Kids" which was every kid's dream. The chairs on the younger section were a yellow hummer, a pink jeep, and a blue angel with plasma screen televisions in front of them. There was a toy store in between the young kid section and the older kid section that had tons of toys, paints, puzzles, etc. He did extremely well for his first hair cut...she was really good with him, especially since he wanted to play. Daddy had to stand by him to keep him from getting too playful when the scissors were close. All in all, we are happy with the cut...the bangs are a little short for my taste-but they will grow. He's no longer our shaggy little man...for now:)

Thank you Simpson family for ordering/delivering a ready made meal for us...it was very yummy and appreciated!

Hayden's Hospital Stay

Last Friday afternoon Hayden came home from school with a cough. By Friday night you could tell that he just wasn't feeling that great...not many smiles, not wanting to play, and a cough. We took his temperature that night and it was 102. The next day the fever was gone but he still had a cough...still not wanting to play and only wanting to be held and to sleep. We went to Sophie's party but quickly went home as he was just getting more miserable (and didn't want other kids to get sick)...and headed to Marble Falls. He was breathing really fast and it seemed hard for him to get a deep breath, I had a really bad feeling about him and called "call a nurse" (the best hotline!!! where you can call and talk to registered nurses during off hours at your doctor's office). The nurse said that she thought he was breathing too fast, that he might have croup, and to take him. We went to an emergency clinic in Marble Falls where we did several breathing treatments and were "clinically" diagnosed with RSV. It was clinically diagnosed by symptoms that he was showing, but they didn't do a test because we wouldn't get the results until Tuesday since they didn't have the technology to do it there and it would have to be sent out (and I was going to take him to the doctor on Monday anyway). They said to just watch his breathing and his fluid intake. We were up all night trying to sooth our poor little guy and headed home early morning so he could be at home.

During the day Sunday he just got worse...he wouldn't eat, wanted to sleep all day, still had rapid breathing, started throwing up, and you could tell that he just plain didn't feel well (even after all the home remedy tricks that we were trying). So, I told Matt to get dressed that we were going to the ER. When we got there they checked his oxygen level intake (which was low) and suctioned out his nose. They were going to use the sample from his nose to test RSV and the flu. We were put in an ER room to wait for the results. The doctor came in and hooked him up to a machine to monitor his oxygen intake levels because of his rapid breathing, observed that his tonsils were swollen so much that they were almost touching, ordered a chest xray, and a strep test. He was put on oxygen because his intake was really low (which was hard because he was fighting the mask, so we had to hold it right above his face). The chest xray came back and showed that he had a lot of mass and blockage in his lungs. He was dehydrated so they put an IV in and started fluid. After about 7 hours of testing, breathing treatments, and observation we were booked a room in the pediatric wing where he was going to be observed for several days. We got to our room about midnight. It turns out that he was positive for RSV bronchitis and was having a hard time with it. By the time we were up in our room he was breathing fine on his own so we stopped the oxygen. He had respiratory therapists (RT) come in every 3 hours to do a breathing treatment and several nurse visits in between. He was hooked up to fluid for 24 hours. He was getting stronger and better every day...and we got finally got to go home. We are continuing to do breathing treatments every day (first few days-4 times a day...now we are just at two). We will continue these until his chest sounds/feels clear.

Even though we were there for a long period of time we were very happy with the stay (even though it was a hospital) because the nurses, doctor, and RTs were very diligent and took excellent care of our precious boy. We are so gracious for their help in his recovery and all the phone calls/messages from concerned family and friends. He is doing much, much better and all over the place again!! He is our happy, adventurous, and nonstop little guy again. :) It turns out that there was an RSV breakout at his school...3 others in his room (before him and at the same time), 1 in the infant room (which also had to be put in the hospital), and 1 in the toddler II room. Eeek! The good news is that his immune system is going strong for this strain of RSV and it is unlikely that he will get it again this season. Hopefully when it comes around next season and a different strain, he will be older and his immune system will be able to fight it. One more side note...the doctor said that since Hayden had such a hard time with it that it might indicate him having asthma in the coming years. This was a very emotional time for us seeing Hayden go through it all and have to stay in the hospital. We are just so thankful, thankful, thankful that all is well and continuing to get better every day!

Hayden started his Christmas Eve and Day off with some of the traditions that we are going to do every year...even if he didn't realize it this year. How fun it is to make this day special for your little ones!!! We made cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve and put them out with milk, carrots, and hay for the reindeer. The only decorated one was from Hayden. We had to put the pacifier in his mouth while decorating because he was wanting to put the icing in his mouth.

Christmas in Uvalde

We were in Uvalde last weekend to celebrate Christmas with some of our family. It was a great visit and we can't wait to go back. Mema cooked delicious meals that everyone enjoyed...even Hayden. He had big days of eating (tamales, rice, casserole, yogurt, ham, potato casserole, etc). We went to see my Mom's new house that they are in the middle of painting and getting ready for the big move in. It is perfect for her and I can't wait to go help decorate and get things ready. We went to see Uncle Mick and Aunt Kristi and their newest remodels to their house...looks great!

We got great pleasure in meeting Hayden's cousin for the first time, Payton. She is just absolutely perfect!!! We love her so much and can't wait to spend more time together.

We loved visiting with you all (Mema, Pawpaw, Chuck, Carol, Chase, Chandler, Mick, Kristi, Sami, Payton, Aunt Becky, Cody...and of course Nana and Uncle Trav) and look forward to the next time we see each other!!! Thank you all for spoiling our little man...he loves all of his new toys and can't wait to use his gift card for something that catches his eye! :)

Santa in Gruene

Matt, Jess, Brittany, and I took Hayden and Presley to Gruene one Saturday to eat at the Gristmill and see Cowboy Santa. Our sweet peas ate off the kids menu for the first time...and they did quite well gobbling up a grilled cheese and a couple of french fries (split between both of them). After lunch we went to see Santa. Presley was first up and was not a happy camper, so Hayden started to get upset as well. We went the weekend before this one to see Santa and he did okay, so we think that he was just helping his sweet cousin out (as well as his daddy when he was his age). We all had to buy the picture of them with Santa for the first time together...the crying makes it pretty priceless.

Pancakes!!!

Last Saturday Hayden had pancakes for the first time. He loved them so much that we made them again on Sunday! He has started eating off the daycare menu this week...he has had a grilled cheese, ground beef, tortillas, green beans, hot dog, and tater tots! What a big boy :)

Tubes for Hayden

On Wednesday little Mr. Hayden James had tubes put in his ears. He has had several ear infections since September (a double in Sept, a double in October, and one in his right ear in November), so we were referred to see an ENT. Hayden and I went to see the ENT over Thanksgiving break and the verdict was to put tubes in. He said that the right ear still had an infection (he was on antibiotics at that time). We were scheduled to be at the hospital this Wednesday morning at 7:00 and his surgery was at 8:00. After an all-nighter, we arrived on time. They took us in to the pre-op room where we were asked many questions (pain level, etc) and where they got our little man ready to go. The scariest part of the tube process is the fact that they put him under for the surgery. Well, the surgery went well...they found another infection in his right ear with puss pockets so they took that out and drained all the fluid before they put the tubes in. The hardest part was watching/holding Hayden come out of the anesthesia. He was a little wild mad man. We finally got to go home, where he went to sleep for two hours and woke up much happier (thank goodness). He still had blood and gook in his ear for several days, but we are definitely on the road to recovery and a much healthier little man. That's all we could ask for.

Christmas time!

I started decorating for Christmas a little early (before Thanksgiving) and decided to put the tree up since I had some time off. We thought that since this year would be the first Christmas for Hayden we had to put up lights on the house. We bought new stockings (we'll hold off on monograming names until our family is complete so they will all be the same...we did buy another stocking to have for baby #2). Hayden's stocking is the red one. We aren't finished with all the lights on the house or decorations on the tree but I got so excited thinking about Christmas that I had to post them. Matt did a fantastic job putting the lights up on the house...I am so proud of him! :)

Getting Ready for New Mexico

I just had to share this picture of little HJ from this afternoon. We were putting away clothes and playing in his room when I got distracted by his new hat (of course I had to put it on him). He loved wearing it...hopefully it will keep his little ears warm when we travel to New Mexico.

Thanksgiving Break

We went to Uvalde for some of our Thanksgiving holiday and had a great time. We got there Wednesday night, but still had time for Mema, Nana, and Pawpaw to "oooh and ahhh" over Hayden before it was bedtime. We went out to the ranch on Thursday to celebrate and have our Thanksgiving meal. We got to see and spend the day with the Cain side of the family...which is always a treat! We went to see my Mom's new house on Friday morning and then headed back to San Antonio. Matt and I had a relaxing Friday night...we ordered Sushi and watched a movie. Saturday afternoon Pappa Grande came to SA to spend the weekend with us, Jess, Brittany, and Presley. We ate lunch at our house, the boys headed out to run errands, and Brittany and I had a massage. We had dinner and spent the night at the other Noble household. We wish we could have seen all of our family and friends this past week, but look forward to seeing you all soon!

I took these pictures of Hayden and Presley in a chair that was Jess' when he was their age. Hayden and Presley are so much fun to watch together...they are really starting to realize that each other exists and that they are a constant in each other's lives.

Hayden's Baptism

We had Hayden's Baptism in Horseshoe Bay on November 16th. Not only is this church special to us because it is where Matt and I were married, but because Matt's Grandparents attended it and had many friends in the congregation. It was absolutely a wonderful weekend filled with family and special memories. Unfortunately we didn't get to take many pictures because Hayden wasn't feeling well.

Yea...my first post! I love the idea of having a specific place for family and friends to go so they can read updates and see the latest pictures of our family. I feel like there are so many times that you want to update people and see how everything is with them, but something comes up or you keep missing each other's calls. I always love reading other people's blogs and feel like I get a quick update of their life. So, here goes...
